Babushka

You might be asking yourself "What in the world is a Babushka?" You may even be wondering if I know how to spell. Well the word "Babushka" is the Russian word for an elderly Russian woman, especially an elderly grandmother (it can also mean a triangular woman's scarf worn on the head). In Ukraine, they speak Russian in part of the country and Ukrainian in other. Since we have no idea what area we are adopting from, we have have heard that it is better to learn Russian because most everyone speaks it and if not, it is understood. So with that said, my mom and Ken's mom are soon to be Babushka's!! Well omit the "elderly" in the definition and voila it is perfect!   I found this cute background for my blog that is called "Babushka." It couldn't get any better than that!! :)

  1. Can't remember if I've commented before or not, but very excited that you'll soon be travelling to meet your child(ren). Will be praying for your journey. I know how scary the uncertainty can be (we've travelled blind to Ukraine twice) but also know the peace that God will provide.

By the way, love the background! Our boys call my MIL "Baba", short for Babushka. One of the little things we held onto to preserve a bit of their heritage :)

    Looking forward to following along!

  2. Hello! Melodye Reeves pointed me in your direction the the other day. We know her and Brent from when we all lived in the same neighborhood in Orting Washington. It seems your husband came and helped with a sports camp our children attended at Riverchase Church about 8 years ago. We adopted 2 older girls from Ukraine 2 years ago, and our first child was adopted from Taiwan when he was a baby.

Anyway, Melodye sent me the link to your blog and now I'm a "follower" and looking forward to your journey!

Are you looking for one child or more and boy or girl and what age?

    I'll be praying for you!
